Positives and Negatives

I am a person who is flawed. I have demons. I have weaknesses.

The first part in attacking them is not to bury them but acknowledge them. Accept that they exist. They are part of you.

It is ok.

No matter how many times your cousin posts about the awesome day drinking they had or that your friends use 30 "!"'s to make something they just did seem cooler than it was, they have down times too. As a quick way to remind myself that I'm not missing out on too much, I reflect on my common viewing of friends and strangers. More than half of them are locked in on their phone while at these social events trying to decide what filter will enhance the mediocre time they are having. The problem is, the time spent trying to frame it, #tag it, and filter it takes away from the joy and quality time that is presently available. Instead they sit with their backs slumped, jaw tucked into their neck and thumb rubbing up, lifting off screen, moving down an inch and then repeating.

Your life can be just as good as that photo post with 150 likes.

It is in our nature to hide our flaws and only talk about the good. Boasting and a form of deceit have become common in the 24/7 social environment of our society.

I want to break that mold and lead others to doing the same.

I am a person who has struggled with alcohol abuse.

I used it as a crutch to stunt my mental capacity from addressing the issues going on in my life. I knew if I could drink and go out to bars and have a good time for that night, then my issues wouldn't be so terrible. I could hide them. Alcohol and the social environment it can tag along with were great shadow casters for me to seek refuge in.

I will approach a lot of things as I get more comfortable with blogging and podcasting.
I will tell funny stories of my past, reminisce about travels, and probably tap into something else I'm passionate about.

However, I want integrate the lighter stories and highlights of travels with motivational pieces, reflections and realities beyond the sparkling images humans present on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Thank you for reading, I hope I can make you laugh, smile, or think more as I post. I appreciate shares and likes to further my message. Subscribe if you would like.
